DIY Farmhouse Table (project reveal)

I have been waiting to show you guys this table since my husband and I started on it!! I love everything about it and I can't wait to use it as a dining room table in our own farmhouse someday, but for now it will work for our outside table! Our other outside table was demolished in a storm we had a couple months back and with this awesome weather we are having I was wanting a table out there so bad! What's a girl to do! We had a couple of  pallets and some scrap wood laying around and figured it would be enough to get us started on a table at least! And it was! We only had to get 4 2x4's costing us about ten dollars if I remember right! We used Shanty 2 Chic's and Ana White's plan for a Fancy X Farmhouse Table. We did modify it some though!
Here is what we did!
First we built the legs by hammering to pieces of pallets together! Then cutting the diagonals on 45 degrees and screwing those into the main pallet! We made 2 of these.

Then we added 2 boards to each leg to help sturdy it one on the top and one on the bottom.

Next was the top! We used pallet boards cut at 6ft and then nailed that into 2x4's.

Then we added a middle support beam and nailed that into place!
Then we also added a couple diagonal support beams!
 Next was building the base!
We took a 2x4 and used that as the bottom support! Then we took 2 more 2x4's and I (first time I used a circular saw and I am now in love!) cut them on 45 degree angles and screwed those into the table and the middle support beam on the table top!

Then we nailed the 2x4's together at each end! Now on to stain and paint!
I was debating whether to stain or paint or both but having to use old lumber and new I decided to do both! First I stained the whole think black (only stain I had on hand).

Then I painted 2 coats of primer and sanded the whole thing after!

And then I put 2 coats of polyurethane on and moved it outside!!

I have about 100 ideas on how to decorate out there, so for now I am holding off doing any decorating! I will be sure to update you all when that does happen! Also apologies on how horrible the garage looks! My husband loves to work on his jeep and it gets messy! You can follow his progress at Cheep Jeepin! Hope you guys like it as much as I do!! I am sure there will be a ton more projects on the blog involving building things, since it is my new found love!! Have a great Tuesday!! <3

  6. Great job. I cannot believe that this is basically "throw away" wood, it looks gorgeous, and it would fit with so many decor options! You did a great job, you may have friends and neighbors wanting you to build them one too. Love it.
